Although facebook may sometimes be viewed as more of a "social network" or networking with other individuals, it is also a place where you can raise awareness or rally up causes. It is a place to spread news faster than you can blink. One of the awareness that facebook is making national is National Spirt Day. It is taking place October 20th. Everyone is to wear purple in honor of the 7 gay boys who commited suicide in recence weeks and months due to the homophobic abuse in their homes and at school. Purple represents the LGBQT flag. So far an estimated 2400 hundred individuals world wide are representing this event. It is important to remeber that no matter what race, accent, sexual orientation, or how diverse an individual is acceptance is crucial. If the world lives in seperation then we could all be heading toward obstacles. I believe it is important to look at what an individual has to offer rather than looking at what they are. This event has caused a social uprise. It seems some people have a problem with it and some are big supporters. The ones who have a problem with it are talking down on the 7 gay individuals who killed themselves saying it is cowardice to kill themselves. This is true, however, in reality it happens to alot of teens as an escape from the growing problems facing them. Some individuals are getting the wrong message that "purple" is for "gay" only, however this is not the case, it is a color. Ignorance has obviously possesed some of the young individuals who have commented on this event. It is about movement to stop bullying so individuals won't have to go through extremes like killing themselves just to solve a problem. I am a supporter of this cause. Although it is controversial as is being gay or bisexual, it is important to look at how the individual is as a person instead of judging of their sexual orientation. I feel individuals who have comments like this and think it is funny should not participate simple as that. Keep comments like this to yourself.
